Jesus was born from God's power, the Holy Spirit, acting upon Mary and for this reason his father was God and his mother was Mary. He was therefore called both the Son of God and also the Son of Man. 11|Luke 2:21 - Jesus was a Jew and so would be obliged to undergo this ritual. 12|Luke 2:7 - When a Jewish child was born, it was usual for it to be washed in water, rubbed in salt and wrapped in swaddling clothes, which are bands or blankets that confined the limbs closely. (Ezek 16:4) 13|Matt 1:23 - Matthew clearly understands this to be a literal virgin (cf Luke 1:34) and implies that the conception was miraculous. 14|Matt 2:13 - The angel only appeared to Joseph in a dream and didn't actually visit them in a physical sense. Also the angel appeared only to Joseph and not to them both. 15|Matt 2:14 - They departed immediately under the cover of darkness. 16|Matt 2:1,3 17|Matt 2:16 - Jesus could well have been nearly two years old by the time the wise men visited him. 18|Luke 1:27 19|Matt 1:1 - It was important to trace the genealogy of Jesus back to David as the promise had been made that the Messiah would be part of his family (Jer 23:5) 20|Matt 2:23 - and so the prophecy that he shall be called a Nazarene wsa fulfilled.
